As the oldest permanent settlement in the entire Louisiana Purchase Territory, Natchitoches attracts visitors with its wealth of historic sites dating back to the first half of the 18th century. Downtown Natchitoches is a National Landmark Historic District offering museums, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, art galleries and antique shops.
